Context – Idea

Initial Idea 1

My specialism for this project would be 3D modeling as that is my specialism for this year and my main goal is to learn more about Maya and to expand my kill using it so I can be a better 3D modeler. I have also chosen 3D modeling as it is the specialism that I am most comfortable with, I do not fell comfortable at all doing 2D art and while I may be alright at pixel art its not what I wanna learn so my motivation to do this project would be somewhat low, as well as my programming skills which I do not feel as if my skills would be good enough to create a good product.

My first ideas of of a western band set on a stage in a small empty and clean theater, a light or two over lighting up the stage and the alone instruments next to the chairs.

The theater would be of a square shape, This would give me room for the stage and the chairs and tables where the patrons would have watched the band play their tunes/songs, the instruments would be positioned neatly next to the chairs on the stage where the players would have sat and the empty seat and tables would be positioned accordingly with each other with the tables and chairs cleared. This gives my scene the space it need to look good but not to far apart for it to seem like a mostly empty diorama.

The colours and textures for this would be dark in most areas as only the stage would be lit and the rest of the scene would be lit but much more dimly letting the viewer see everything however not from a distance. they would have quite realistic textures cause I hope to learn how to use smart materials and generators to give mt hose effects however the colour would just be enough to make the texture look a little cartoonish giving it an off yet accurate look.

This scene would be of a bank, this would be the outside of the band as well as objects to help fill mys scene up a lit more. while I would not model characters I would intend to model a wagon possibly a loaded wagon as I could include creates for it so seem like the wagon is carrying cargo of some sort as well as possibly a dynamite box or an old western type detonator or a sack as a way to transport softer materials. I could also include the possibility of adding plants into this scene as I could do a few cactus around the band and a tumble weed which I could position as if it was rolling across my scene, depending on how accurate I wanna be with my scene.

The style of this scene would be semi realistic, I would use simple colours to make each objects stand out compared to the other objects however they would look reasonably realistic with texturing them to look like the real materials, but add enough

Initial Idea 3

I have also chosen 3D modeling as it is the specialism that I am most comfortable with, I do not fell comfortable at all doing 2D art and while I may be alright at pixel art its not what I wanna learn so my motivation to do this project would be somewhat low, as well as my programming skills which I do not feel as if my skills would be good enough to create a good product.

This scene would be on a broken down loaded wagon which had been abandoned and left in the desert, this scene would be just after whoever was with the crates has left, the cargo still layed out scattered from where it broke or be organised before the person before giving up and leaving. there could be a few plants such as sweet grass or cati around the scene with different placed and shaped rocks making the scene look fuller.

This scene would be good to model and the texturing would be of a semi relativistic semi cartoonist texture so I can aim for my target audience, I would texture it using materials and generators so I can expand my skill but also would allow me to get the effects needed to make my objects looks relativistic

Initial Idea 4

My specialism for this project would be 3D modeling as that is my specialism for this year and my main goal is to learn more about Maya and to expand my kill using it so I can be a better 3D modeler. I have also chosen 3D modeling as it is the specialism that I am most comfortable with, I do not fell comfortable at all doing 2D art and while I may be alright at pixel art its not what I wanna learn so my motivation to do this project would be somewhat low, as well as my programming skills which I do not feel as if my skills would be good enough to create a good product.

This would be of a western camp, this would include items such as a burned out campfire in the center with scattered food/cooking items maybe such as a can of beans and a pan and wooden spoon to show that the person would have eaten, this scene would have a tent as the main piece in this scene however the tent would be closed as this saves me modeling the inside and also give me a reason as I could say this is when the cowboy was asleep in his spurs. I can possibly model a rucksack and a sleeping bag like thing rolled leaning against one of the logs which mark the perimeter of his camp.

My colours and textures for this would be quite dark as the scene would be at night time, a little light coming off the remain of the camp fire from the little spots of the glowing wood. My My assets would be model and textured nicely but they would have quite realistic textures cause I hope to learn how to use smart materials and generators to give mt hose effects however the colour would just be enough to make the texture look a little cartoonish giving it an off yet accurate look.

Final Idea

Specialism you would use

My specialism for this project would be 3D modeling as that is my specialism for this year and my main goal is to learn more about Maya and to expand my kill using it so I can be a better 3D modeler. I have also chosen 3D modeling as it is the specialism that I am most comfortable with, I do not fell comfortable at all doing 2D art and while I may be alright at pixel art its not what I wanna learn so my motivation to do this project would be somewhat low, as well as my programming skills which I do not feel as if my skills would be good enough to create a good product.

What the diorama would include.

“This scene would be of a bank, this would be the outside of the band as well as objects to help fill mys scene up a lit more. while I would not model characters I would intend to model a wagon possibly a loaded wagon as I could include creates for it so seem like the wagon is carrying cargo of some sort as well as possibly a dynamite box or an old western type detonator or a sack as a way to transport softer materials. I could also include the possibility of adding plants into this scene as I could do a few cactus around the band and a tumble weed which I could position as if it was rolling across my scene, depending on how accurate I wanna be with my scene.”

My diorama would include a few different objects, these would all be modeled separately and then brought into my final scene, there is a few different objects to include into my scene, these would include…

3D assets

  • wagon
  • cargo creates
  • cargo sacks
  • cargo barrels
  • wagon wheels
  • cactus
  • banisters/hand rails
  • beer bottles
  • bank building
  • bank door
  • bank power cables and poles
  • roof tiles
  • windows
  • doors
  • sign
  • sign text
  • porch
  • wind mill

What style. How it meets your audience’s needs.

MY style will be somewhat realistic, from this I have two sources of inspiration which I will keep referring to and looking back at, these textures will allow me to keep my textures simplistic however it will still look good and somewhat realistic, I will be sure to keep it simple enough for me to be able to texture and to keep track of however I must be careful not to add to much detail into mt textures to ruin my art style and to keep it targeted at my audience.

overall texturing

This image is from the game “sea of thieves”, I have played with this game quite a bit, the art style in this game is very good as it is very simplistic yes it has good enough shine to it to give the texture a realistic effects, the textures used in this game are simple as they done require the use of masks and generators just hand painted materials, however because my audience is a little older I feel as if my textures should be slightly more textured, because of this I shall be adding more effects to my textures afterwards to make them seem a little more real.

Boards

Here I have created a mood board on western themed wind mills. I have made this board because I hope to model this into my diorama scene, from this mood boards I can see that the base of these windmills are often made with wood, normally think bits or oddly shaped bits to hold it up, and the actual windmill is mead of cloth or leather, it looks like the hide of an animal which is good because it gives me a very good idea of what to texture my objects as closely as I can to give it a realistic style which can also be accurate to what the windmill is made of.

Here I have created my mood board on western banks, this is probably the most needed mood board as it will help me with my layout, this will also help me with the shape and design of my actual building and slowly give me ideas and insight about how I,m going to model my building and what it will have to it that makes it different but still looking good. I can also us this mood board to get me plan the structure of the objects around it so make my scene look even better.

Here is my mood board on power lines and cables, I have created this moodboard because my scene will include power line and cables to show the building has power, because of this I need this mood board to help me think about the scale of the thickness of the wires, where the wires meet up on each pole as well as the structure, thickness and height of the actual polls to they look the best they can in my scene.

Here I have created a mood board on western cactus, I have made this because in my scene I do hope to model and texture cactus into my scene to make my scene a lot more realistic and make the scene much fuller, from this mood board I can see the cacti is is irregular in its shape, it has all sorts of twists and turns in the shape making almost all the cacti looks different little by little. because of this it allows me to be creative with its shape, the insight to the texture is very good as I can see the cacti is green but more of a beige green instead of a normal green, which is very good for me as it will allow me to make my textures realistic so it can be more direct to my target audience.

This is my mood board on glass bottles and bottle caps, I like this board because It gives me an inside about the shape on the bottle caps and lets me begin to work out how the bottle caps are gonna be made, I can also work out the shine and the effects of the bottle cap and what I can texture my bottle cap to look like giving it an accurate and realistic look. the bottles are good because looking at this I have got an idea about how much opacity I would need for my bottle and the colours needed to make it look good, however we van get different colours of bottles allowing my to experiment later in my problem solving that would allow me to see which colour works best with the theme and my idea.
