Specific Research
Here I have created a moodboard of cola cans, I have added images from different companies with different variants of soft drink in the same can, as we can see these drink use the same soft drink can, from this I can see a an array of soft drinks using the same can, however at the end I have added other soft drink cans so I could increase the amount of variants I would have for this asset, I would also choose my colour ideas from this design. From this though it not only gives me colour ideas but it also helps me choose the shape and size of the asset bad gives me insight into how to model this asset and the effects should include when modeling this asset.
Coca Cola Short Soft Drink Can (Primary Research)
Here I have collected some primary research and collected a number of images around the Soft drink can asset. as we can see this can is quite short and quite fat, however its practical to use. many soft drink companies such as Coca Cola, Fanta, Irun bru and many more companies use these cans to sell their product to the mass public, because of this you see these types of cans in almost any convenience shop as well as supermarkets, And its because of the face that these type of cans are so common and sold so widely I believe they would make a great asset to my scene, I can texture the can with a simple base colour sorting out the tin sections of my asset, I can also have the same asset with the same unwrap but I can create a few similar but also very different textures to implicate the face that the shop sells a wide array of soft drinks to their customers as well as adding variance for this asset, I believe this asset is a must have asset for my scene in order to make the shop seem like it could be visited quite recently as well as making the scene look more realistic in showing that my shop in my environment scene is actually a shop.
Tall Dark Fruits Soft Drink Can (Primary Research)
Here I have taken a number of images of a dark fruits can, this soft drink can is very similar to the first soft drink can I have mentioned above, however this one is taller, this can be used as a variant of mt soft drinks section in my store, because of this it allows me to essentially create one asset but I can then simply moved the faces upwards on the y axis so that I can create this asset with little effort, then I can two variants of the same drink. I will also use these images to help me sort out colour coordination as well for the asset and would allow me get some great ideas for the colour ideas when testing for the assets.
Thin Red Bull Soft Drink Can (Primary Research)
Here I have taken pictures of Red Bull can, this can is very similar to the last two cans I have done primary research upon. However this asset differs as it is nowhere near as fat as the other two types, this design could be very good for my scene, this is because as I make my coke can I can create the base of the can and duplicate it, instead of widening the mesh when I would be modeling like I would have to do for my first and second design I can extrude straight upwards implying that this is a different can compared to the other two which would add variance not just for textures but also for the designs for my models. Overall I very much like this can as believe I could use this asset easily in my scene to make it look more realistic of an environment scene but to also make the environment scenes look more complete.
Here I have made a moodboard based upon the types of container that milk is sold and stored in, from this moodboard I can see a few different designs which I could use in my scene as well as A few texture ideas which I could use depending on what designs I use for my final products, Overall certain images such as milk cartons look very good as they would be relatively easy to model and unwrapped as I could also create a small number of different textures for the same asset showing variants in the product in my environment scene which would make the scene look better and a bit more realistic.
Milk Carton (Primary Research)
Here I have taken a number of images from my phone of a milk carton I had in my fridge, this asset could very well be part of my scenes. to help me work out dimensions and textures I took pictures from every angel from this asset, this helps me figure out how I could model this asset as these images give me a few ideas about what I can do when I come to texturing this asset.
Milk Jug (Primary Research)
Here I have collected a few images of a small milk jug, this type of contains is one of the most common way that milk is sold to the public, I can see from these image that the container is quite nicely designed as it has quite a few different feels to the object. On the top we can see that the lid is smooth but has quit distinct grips so that the product is easy to open and is therefore convenient for the user to use. Near the top of the container we have a sort of cracks and trench texture where the feel of the object is quite rough. We can also see from this object that all the edges are very smooth as this makes it safe for people to carry with them but it is also very practical as with the curved edges I increases the containers surface area which is very good when the milk are in the chillers in store as this design means that the milk will stay colder for longer which is something I should follow with if I am gonna make an asset similar to this for my final product.
Here I have created and linked a mood board from Pinterest, for this mood board I have gathered images of cash registers that have a bunch of different designs and colour patters to make the asset look appealing, from this mood board I can see what each cash register has in common to show the definite details that I would have to add to my model and the colours needed to texture these pieces but also it allows me to see the non essential details to these cash registers and then I can decide if I want these attributes on my model to go into my final scene and if these attributes would fit in well with the scene of the shop as well as the time spend unwrapping and texturing this asset.
Here I have created a mood board based around shotguns, for my second environment scene I will be placing a shotgun on the floor with a few shotgun shells to show shots have been fired, from this moodboard I have a wide array of designs and looks to my shotgun, allowing me to have a wide array of possible designs to which I can add effects onto to create the shotgun asset for my final scene.
Here I have made a mood board based upon my outside shop sign, here we can see that the center piece is hinged at the top so it allows the sign to blow in the wind with the text needed to advertise the shop, at the top the sign is hinged in a different way to how I will hinge my sign on my final major project. From the base I can see its normally a very rough rubber looking texture, I can use this to help me get colour and texture Ideas on my assets. we can also see from this moodboard that the poled are attached to the base that holds the panel in place, this will be easy to model however getting the curve maybe be a little trickier. However from this I now have a very good idea about how to design this as well as a few small ideas referring to colour and textures for this asset.
Here I have the stop sign that would be going on the outside of my shop, in both scenes, while one will be edited this mood board does give me quite a bit of insight about the holes that these stop signs are attached to, it would allow me to choose between a small design between the actual design as well as a few slightly different colour variations, however for the poles, it allows me to see a wide array of poles which I could base mine off of but would also allow me to give me ideas if I wanted to design my own street pole for outside of my shop.
Here I have collected quite a few imaged on a tin can, this is a fairly common design that contains all sorts of food from soup and hot dogs, to vegetables and fruit, so this can would be used quite a lot as a lot of products especially cheap products would use this design to move their products to their customers. Because of this I could very well use this asset in my scene, I could very easily use the same mesh and unwrap and apply different textures onto my assets to show a variety of products being sold at the store as it also allows me to line shelves with this product with different textures. from these images I can get a pretty good idea about the shape of the tin can as well as the edges and she smaller effects, with this I should be able to create a good model of this asset as well as create a good number of textures for different food items in my scene.
Particle Effects Tutorial
Here I have found a slow and really good tutorial about creating dust particle effect in unreal, fro this I could follow this guy to help me understand the particle effect system, as this tutorial is slow and the user explained the elements, this would be a great tool to help me create my dust particle effect, and then from this I can then use the knowledge I would have gained from following this video and should be able to make it easy to create my rain particle effect, if the particle effect is applicable to my scene.
Lighting Tutorial
Here I have found an online tutorial on YouTube about lighting in unreal, I could use this tutorial to help me with my lighting in my two environment scenes, this video is quite long and I believe it goes over all if not most of the lighting tool in unreal and what component does what for the lighting. With this I could experiment with lighting in my visual ideas and tests which would then allow me to focus on my detail when I come to creating the lighting for my final scene.
