Final evaluation

  • How has the development of your project been influenced by your research on working practices for your chosen profession?

my project during this unit has been heavily influenced by the research I did on the overall theme as the specific research which allowed me to see the colours and textures used in certain assets in both 3D art and 2D art, the research also helped me sort out shape and design for certain elements such as my hunting rifle and ear defenders, my glasses as well, the textures of those assets were designed by ideas I had gotten from the research and experimenting with colours in the colour Ideas. The effects on some of these models such as my mood boards about the cuber punk themed weapons, I believe I could have used as well as I could of used those effects and created my own version to place onto my weapons.

  • Has the development of your project been affected by your research into historical and contemporary influences for your chosen profession?

I would say that the research really helped me create the ideas that I made for this project. I have used the research to create designs as well as textures which I believed would fit in well to the cyberpunk theme.

  • Reflect on your learning and skills – What you have done and why you have done it?

In this project I have been practicing my unwrapping skills using planer and cylindrical unwrapping instead of my usual method to unwrap and trying to pack my UV shells as best as I can so that I can apply the best textures to my assets. I have done all of this as I want to get better and explore the possibilities in 3D modeling so that I can create bigger and better objects with better and well designed textures.

  • Sum up your ongoing evaluations/opinions/reflections that you documented during the project.

Through out my project I have taken the opinions of not only my classmates but also from my tutors, I have then reflected on their advice and then have tried to improve my textures and my models, my own evaluation based upon certain aspects such as scaling on one of my models I have considered as well as I have then tried to fix the issue to make the object look more realistic but also to look better in the eyes of the viewer.

  • What do you feel has worked well and what did not work well? What could you do to improve your work?

From my finished scene I have some elements that I really liked but I also had some elements which I didn’t like and I wanted to improve on

Things that I think went well:

  • I think that the modeling of my pistol was very good, the barrel could have used a but of work and I could have used a neater geometery however I loved the finished texture on my piece. the grip I really likes as I had to search up online and had to apply a number of effects to make it look realistic.
  • I was very happy with the design and the finished texture for my ear defenders, the finished model looked very realistic but it also looked usable, the texture as well went really well with the ear defenders made the headphones look soft and comfortable but still able to do their job effectively.
  • The position of my assets gave a little look into the people using the weapons last as they also show us that the cyberpunk themed world could be quite dangerous and people often need to train to use weapons such as firearms and rifles to defend themselves or perhaps to harm others.

Things I think didn’t go so well:

  • my texture for my room I don’t believe was very good, the emissive map didn’t really work like I thought it would but it the texture for the room wasn’t that good anyway, I believe I could have made it much better if I spent more time texturing it the room would look good with the rest of the scene.
  • my modeling could have been a lot easier, if I’m honest looking back at the environment scene I could have modeled the light to the room as well as more detailed weapons and targets, I also feel like I should have given the room more detail and I feel like I should have modeled at least a small front for the shooting range.
  • I also believe that the finished product of the shooting targets weren’t as good as I wanted, if I was to do them again I would use a plane and then texture one of the human shaped targets onto it with a small point system so that the gun range could have competitions of who can aim and fire the best.

  • Reflect on peer and tutor feedback.

my peer feedback has been very helpful, from my feedback I can see that at the beginning of this project I was doing very good getting distinction level work completed, the second interim was still good but I did have areas to work on, the final dead line showed me that over time I have poorly managed my time and I need to manage my time effectively manage my time for the FMP coming up next week. I have also asked my tutors on thought as from they’re opinions I have been able to not only improve my designs but I have also been able to improve my texturing skills to create more realistic textures.

  • What have you learnt during this project?

Over this project I have tried to push myself with creating particle effects, unfortunately I was not able to have my scene in unreal and to apply the particle effect however I have learn about the components used and how I can use the particle effect system to create an array of effects to make environments look realistic, I have also played with lighting a little in unreal, while I am still relatively new to lighting in unreal I have been able to import lights and I have been able to change their strength and see how I can lighting in my scenes to make a scene look good with lighting.
